BAYAN KNIGHTS at Komikon 08

I am bad at this, it'll take me a bit of time before I could recover and make a detailed entry about our KOMIKON 08 experience. But It was a smashing success, congrats to all of us who are there. Ang daming magagandang Titles ngayon.

Successful din ang unang labas ng Bayan Knights issue 1. Congrats mga Knights!

The whole time, we were getting all the names of all the people who supported us during the day, while I came up with an original 11 x 17 Bayan Knight art to be raffled later that say day, and the Original Bayan Knight art raffle winner is Christian Dior Barcelona no.83rd who logged on our book.

I'll post more about that day soon.

EVIL YAYA

BEWARE OF THIS YAYA!
As I write this, I can't help to be emotional. We got this yaya from an agency. a few weeks ago. She claimed that she was the yaya for one of Lucio Tan's grand children. So, we thought that if she came from that family, she might be a wise choice. We were sooo wrong. So wrong that we did not know that she would hurt Kyle from behind our backs and even taunted another yaya not to say anything. The yaya gave in finally and exposed this BAD EVIL yaya. We talked to our son and all the horror came out. She would hit, put pillow on his face and even strangle him a bit every chance she got. I let her go not knowing all the facts. How I wish I knew more. But just as well, because I could never imagine how I could hurt this evil person.
I am doing this now, with the hope to prevent her to hurt another baby. Please, if you hired this yaya. Keep an open eye. She could have killed my child.
I pray for the safety of your child.
Her name is Evangeline "VANGIE" Salamat

Bayan Knights

It is evident that comics here in the Philippines, although seemingly still popular, is really not in a healthy state. In my sincere opinion, it in fact needs major medical attention. For years I have constantly pondered the elusive remedy to the problem. We do not lack great writers, or artistic people whom I know can produce the type of stories that are worth the money. It is now even common knowledge that some of them are currently working on well-known titles abroad. Not here, but over there where they can reap the benefits and respect that they very much deserve. While here, it is so hard for comic book artists to say the same.

I’d like to think I did, or should I say, I am still doing my part. I’ve been in this business for almost two decades. I can say I have done it all, from pencils, writing, coloring, inking, up to publishing my own books. Sad to say, the pace goes ever so slowly toward success. But just like before, I’ll take it in stride. I’m sure someday, our local comics will reach its peak once more. There are many who walk the same path as I do, same direction but not together. Each and everyone doing their best -- we are many but we are alone, scattered all over a great big and wide wall. From afar, we are but specks of black on canvass. At some point we meet, say hi, good luck, take care and how do you dos. After that we climb on aimlessly towards the top. Sometimes we help out, give a hand to reach a certain point. Then start alone again.

I’ve seen more and more creators consistently trying to get their love to as many readers out there as they can reach. Their growing numbers are undeniable evidence that comics still exists where it matters, their hearts. I decided to stop just for a moment to look at where I am and maybe everybody else. Then I found them, not far from each other, I yelled hello and offered something I think everybody needs right now, a helping hand. Not all of them may want or need any help but I am offering and in return, I’ll start asking for help as well. I figured if we can all make it to a certain point together on this wall, we can form a line and people will start to notice. A line, that is what we will be, for we are one.

So I am asking one thing from you now, if you have some way by which you can help us, please do. If you have a character you love and feel that it could be a great addition to our group, join, and if you have any amount to spare knowing that it will go into a unique and good cause, please donate. Lastly, if you could spread the word to more comic readers in the country, new and old, please do so. Comics need your help. For the first time, in its behalf, I am humbly shouting for help.

This site is dedicated to share with you new wonderful ways to help this cause. You can choose from several ways to help. I pray that in a year, we can find new titles, homes to showcase more and more wonderful creations from our local talents, new and old alike.

I believe in the hero in all of us.

We believe that there is a Bayan Knight in all of us.

A Bayan Knight,

TRYING TO HELP THE KOMIKS INDUSTRY.

2 NEWcategories for commissions

I'm down finishing 2 last free promo art. After that I have to cut the promo short to the last 3 slots. I have 2 reserved slot for James H, so that leaves me with one with a free promo art for a friend.

A while back, I was thinking hard how to help our local comics industry get back on its track. Then I thought it needs more push, more strength will and determination. So, I decided to do something about it.

I have 2 new categories for my commissions that will focus in helping the industry.

Category #1:

I am willing to give out 20% percentage from my commission rates to give out FREE comics from Sacred Mountain Publications. That means if you request a commission from me, that will be 12 free comics for 12 potential new comic readers in Manila."

These free comics will be distributed in key locations like comic book shops, hobby stores, schools etc...

if you want to help me in this category, Place (NOBLE) to the subject of your email to me. email it to smp_letters@yahoo.com

Category #2

I am willing to do the same to help our local creators by co-producing a book that aims to introduce, promote and legitimize their work to the reading public.

If you want to help me in this category, Place (BAYAN KNIGHTS) next to the subject of your email to me. email it to smp_letters@yahoo.com

Donations and/or sponsorships are also welcome.

Please help me in realizing this dream. Rates of my commissions can be viewed below:

Our trip to the U.S. part 2b

After that we took another trolley ride and went to the San Diego Zoo. As we feared, it was a big place and we really got tired soon enough hehe. We called this our shortest Zoo Trip ever. It is a good thing we took the ticket with the guide bus ride around the Zoo.

After that we decided to head finally to the Convention Center to get out badges. Unfortunately, the trolley took a detour and did not pass the place, we had to walk several blocks just to get there. The starting tome to get the 4-day badges was 3, it was 5:30 when we got there. We got a huge surprise to find hundred lining up outside just to get inside, it took 2 hours just to get inside, the people are talking that this seemed to be the first time that this happened. It is a crazy snake of a line.

Finally we got inside, it was already too late for most of the preview showing so we just went in and found right away how huge this place is. We got buy a few TPBs and got as much freebies as we could :) It was exciting but because we went to all those places before this, I was too tired to celebrate that I am in COMICON! We checked and planned for what we'll do tomorrow and headed back finally to the Hotel, we took a cab that usually costs around 13 dollars plus tip. I think it was around eleven when we arrived to rest. I tried to work, unfortunately too tired to do so hehe.

To be continued...
